Privacy

Privacy first.

Wisp turns your voice into text on your Mac. Here is exactly what stays there, and the little that doesn't.

Never leaves your Mac

  • Your voice and recordings.
  • What you say: transcripts, history, edits.
  • Your Dictionary and Snippets.
  • Names read from the app you're typing in. Wisp reads text only (never pixels or password fields), uses it for that one dictation and forgets it.

A few languages can use Apple's own speech service built into macOS. Wisp labels them "Needs internet" so you always know.

If you use Wisp Pro

Your account holds your email, your purchase (handled by Stripe, who keep the card details, not us), and the Macs Pro is active on: a name such as "Tirth's MacBook Pro", the model, the app version, and an anonymous ID made by scrambling the Mac's hardware ID so it can't be turned back. Each Mac checks its licence with us now and then.

Usage counts

When Wisp opens, and once a day, it checks in with a random install ID, a scrambled ID for your Mac (it can't be turned back into the real one), app and macOS version, Mac model and chip, and the region set on your Mac (never your IP address). It also sends a few numbers: words dictated per day, how many dictations and edits, seconds spoken and which features ran. Never words, audio, app names or screen text. This is linked to your Pro account only if you allow it.

Both are on by default and you can turn them off in Settings → Data and Privacy. "See it" shows exactly what's sent, and "Delete my stats" erases what we have.

Who helps us run this

  • Supabase stores accounts, licences and usage counts.
  • Stripe handles payments and receipts.
  • Cloudflare serves this website and app downloads.

Deleting everything

Delete your account in Wisp (Settings → Account) or on your account page: your email, purchase record and Macs are removed. To erase Wisp's data on your Mac, use Settings → Data and Privacy → Clear history, or delete the Wisp folder in Application Support.
